It was a recent visit to Fortnum and Mason’s department store that inspired me to bring The Vintage Hamper Company to life… When living in London, and since moving to Bath, an hour or two spent wandering in Fortnum’s taking in the delights of the foodhall, the beautiful stationary, the millinery and handbags, perhaps a glass of English sparkling wine in the wine bar, but above all the fitted picnic hampers and the Fine China department has always been a joyful time out for me. Then a few months ago I found for the first time beautiful vintage crockery offered for sale. And I knew it was time to fulfil a long cherished idea and create my own bespoke fitted picnic hampers.
What followed was a summer of vintage china – unpacking and sorting my huge, much loved collection, sourcing hampers which had themselves to be of lovely quality, deciding which pieces to rent and which to sell. The garden, the sheds, the kitchen; in Ikea boxes, in wicker baskets, on the kitchen dresser … it seemed to be everywhere….
I had a clear vision of what I wanted to offer – including some special added extras to complete your hampers, a selection which I intend to grow…..
So here we are. We still have dreams and ideas for The Vintage Hamper Company, but we are thrilled to be open for business.
